Digital Caliper, Three Purpose Caliper
Description
A digital caliper is a precision measuring instrument used for accurate measurements of an object’s internal and external dimensions, as well as depth and step measurements. It functions similarly to a traditional vernier caliper, but instead of using a sliding vernier scale for reading, it features a digital display for instant and clear readouts.
Key Features
  • Digital Display: Provides a clear and accurate numerical readout of measurements, typically in both millimeters and inches.
  • Unit Conversion: Allows for easy switching between different units of measurement, such as inches and millimeters, with a dedicated button.
  • Zero Setting/Calibration: The display can be zeroed at any point along the scale, enabling comparative measurements.
  • Auto On/Off: Often features automatic power on when the jaws are moved and automatic shut off after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.
  • Linear Encoder: Utilizes a linear encoder system to convert the jaw’s position into a digital signal displayed on the screen.
  • Durable Construction: Commonly made from stainless steel, plastic, or carbon fiber composite materials, offering varying levels of durability and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel is typically more durable and resistant to water, dirt, and oil compared to carbon fiber or plastic.
  • Measurement Modes: Equipped with inside and outside jaws for measuring internal and external dimensions, as well as a depth bar or depth rod for depth measurements.
  • Accuracy and Resolution: Generally offers high accuracy and resolution, with common ranges like 0.01mm/0.0005″ resolution and ±0.02mm/0.001″ accuracy. However, accuracy can vary depending on the caliper length, with longer calipers potentially having slightly reduced accuracy.
Benefits
  • Ease of Use: The digital display and unit conversion features simplify the measurement process, making it user-friendly for both professionals and beginners.
  • Precision and Accuracy: Provides precise and accurate measurements, reducing the potential for human error associated with reading analog scales.
  • Efficiency: Enables quick and efficient measurements, making it suitable for production environments where speed and accuracy are crucial.
  • Versatility: Can be used in various applications across industries such as manufacturing, engineering, automotive, and woodworking.
  • Reduced Human Error: Eliminates the need for manual interpretation of scales, minimizing the risk of misreading and improving measurement reliability.
  • Data Transfer (Optional): Some models offer data output ports for connecting to computers or other devices, allowing for data logging and analysis. This feature is particularly useful for quality control and documentation purposes.
